January 2020 Update:

Since we first posted Joseph and Mary Scott in February 2017, we have found quite a bit of information on them.  This was successful as we found their son, Gabriel Scott, in Welney Parish, Norfolk and Isle of Ely County, England with the baptism of his daughter, Isabella Mary, on March 19, 1857.  Gabriel listed his "Abode" as Lockport, Niagara County, US.  We knew that Lockport, New York was where Joseph and Mary Scott lived after their immigration to the United States.

Welney was formerly in both Cambridgeshire and Norfolk Counties and was part of the Parish of Upwell.  Welney was a vast marshland in the middle of the Fenlands of England.  It is here that we have found the Scott and Climenson families.

Joseph Scott was born in 1793 in Welney, Norfolk, England.  He was baptized on May 26, 1793.  His parents were Gabriel Scott and Elizabeth Mouel.

On December 13, 1831 he immigrated from London, England to New York with his wife, Mary, and their children.  They arrived on the ship "Florida".  Joseph was listed as a farmer. Joseph and Mary had eight children.  They included Joseph, Maria, Gabriel, William, Mary, Alice, Elizabeth and John.  John was born in New York.  The other children were on the ship's manifest as born in England.

In July 1850, Joseph appeared on the US Census.  He was living in Lockport, NY and was a clerk.  We, also, found Joseph on the NYS 1855 Census.  He was a farmer.  On the 1860 US Census, Joseph was a farmer living with his son, Gabriel and Gabriel's family in Lockport, NY.  The NYS 1865 Census listed Joseph as a widow and now retired.  He was still living with his son, Gabriel.

Joseph Scott died August 24, 1866 in Lockport, NY.  He was 73-years old.  He was buried in Grace Church Burying Ground.  The cemetery was moved in the late 1920's to Glenwood Cemetery.

NOTE:  We have found additional information on the Scott family of Welney.  We will update our blog to include these ancestors.

Mary Climenson was christened in Welney, Norfolk, England on June 17, 1798.  She was the daughter of Joseph Climenson and Alice Parlet.  Many records found record Climenson or Clemenson as their last name.  However, Joseph signed "Climenson" on the marriage record of Joseph Scott and his daughter, Mary Climenson.

Joseph Climenson was a farmer and a large land owner.  We do not know his parents' names or if he was originally from the Welney area.  He married Alice Parlet on September 23, 1792 in Welney, Norfolk, England.  On this marriage record Mary EMBLIN signed as the natural mother and guardian of Alice Parlet.  We do not know if Emblin was her maiden name or a husband's name.  We cannot find Alice's father's name.

Joseph and Alice Climenson had at least eight children.  They included William, John, Joseph (died at one month old), Mary, Joseph, James, Elizabeth and Thomas.  They were all born in the Welney, Upwell area of Norfolk, England.

We are descended from Mary Climenson.  She married Joseph Scott on September 16, 1815 in Outwell, Norfolk, England.  Joseph and Mary Scott had eight children.  They included Joseph, Maria, Gabriel, William, Mary Alice, Elizabeth and John.  The first seven children were born in the Cambridge, Norfolk area.  Joseph and Mary Scott and their seven children arrived in New York on December 13, 1831 from London, England on the ship Florida.  They settled in Lockport, New York and that is where their son, John, was born.

We did not find Mary on any census reports.  Her last child was born in 1834.  Apparently, she died between 1834 and the 1850 census report.

Of interest in the documents found was Mary Climenson Scott's brother, William Climenson, married Mary Ann Scott, the sister of her husband, Joseph on August 23, 1815.  The witnesses were Mary Climenson and Joseph Scott.

Also, in the Norfolk Bishop's Transcripts marriage record of Joseph Climenson and Alice Parlet, Gabriel Scott is listed as the witness.  Apparently, the Scott and Climenson families were friends who became family.
